Cobalt Alloy Stellite 6

Cobalt Alloys

Cobalt is a shiny, brittle metal that is used to produce strong, corrosion and heat-resistant alloys, permanent magnets and hard metals.
Stellite alloys are a group or a range of cobalt-chromium alloys. They are designed to be resistant to wear and corrosion. These alloys may also have some portions of tungsten or molybdenum and some small but critical amounts of carbon.

Characteristics of Cobalt:

•     Excellent mechanical wear resistance
•     Resistant to cavitation, corrosion, erosion, abrasion and galling
•     High hardness

    Applications of Cobalt:

•     saw teeth, hardfacing, and acid-resistant machine parts
•     production of poppet valves and valve seats for the valves
•     manufacturing of turning tools for lathes
•     M2HB machine gun and machine gun barrels
•     Medical applications including manufacturing of artificial hip joints, other bone replacements and cast structure of dental prosthesis
